Training for Professionals Working with Children and Families

Attachment Matters has a long history of providing training across the out-of-home care, family law, and education sectors. We have partnered with organisations and agencies to tailor specialised training for; separating parents, family dispute resolution practitioners and family mediators, foster, kin, and residential care teams, intensive family support (IFS) workers (including social workers, psychologists, counsellors, team leaders, and practice leads), and children’s counselling, therapeutic, and education, service providers. Our training content is platformed upon salient and contemporary field research which supports the development of evidence-based practice for new and seasoned staff.

Attachment Matters training can target all aspects of practice when working with children and families. This might include things like; using an attachment-based lens to evaluate risk and protective factors in families, providing direct care which is truly evidence-based, trauma-aware, and therapeutically effective, supporting the development of safe, child-centred, parenting plans to increase the likelihood that parties engaged in family dispute resolution will reach agreement, creating in-class support plans for children with trauma experiences, attentional difficulties, hyperactivity, emotion dysregulation and behavioural difficulties, developing evidence based therapeutic care plans for children in out of home and residential care, creating an understanding of the ways various mental health disorders can impact parent/carer/child functioning in vulnerable families (including their patterns of engagement with service providers), and, developing a therapeutic approach to case practice to increase caregiver capacity for co-regulation of children’s emotions and behaviour.

Our training service aims to improve outcomes for vulnerable children and families by increasing child-centredness in support services through the promotion of robust and effective evidence-based practice.

Staff and caregivers new to working with children and families, along with seasoned staff seeking to further hone their practice, have appreciated the rich learning experiences and practice development gained through Attachment Matters training.
